Calomax
was founded in 1946 in Leeds and moved to its present, purpose built location
in 1965. In the intervening 60+ years our boilers have developed almost
beyond recognition, but the core values of durability and value for money
remain unchanged. Our boilers are built to last, and properly serviced
and maintained should last at least 5 years. Nowadays much is said about “corporate and social responsibility” and “sustainability”. We were following these practices before the phrases were even coined – in Yorkshire we call it “being careful”. Careful about the environment and our impact upon it. Careful about the quality of our product and our reputation. Careful about the people we employ (most of whom have been with us many years), and careful that we continue to offer value for money boilers with life-cycle costs that cannot be beaten. (It will always be possible to buy “cheaper” products, but if these only last 12 months, who benefits?) Like many other responsible organisations we hold to the tenet of thinking globally but acting locally . We are actively involved in the local business community and relevant trade sectors, as our membership of the Chamber of Commerce, Hospital Caterers Association and Local Authority Catering Association will attest. We like to keep information about charitable donations under our cap, but suffice it to say that as a company and individuals, we support a variety of worthy local, national and international causes. We keep our carbon footprint low by producing everything in our Leeds factory, even the PCB boards are assembled here. We are proud to be a UK manufacturer, and absolutely determined that we remain so.
Calomax boilers are used to make hot drinks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a wide range of locations. Typical applications include:
The Health Service (Hospitals, clinics and nursing homes) Ministry of Defence Rail Networks (stations plus bespoke on-train models) Offshore (oil rigs and RN vessels) Education (schools, colleges, universities) Catering Facilities (cafes, hotels, restaurants and conference centres) Prisons Industry Commerce (staff canteens and rest rooms)
We offer a wide range of wall-mounted and counter-top boilers, some with unique energy-saving and health and safety features. The boilers range from the 2.5 litres wall-mounted “Compact” ideal for a small staff canteen; to the 25 litre “Kudos 9 Dualflow” counter-top model, capable of supplying 681 cups in one hour. All our modern counter-top models are supplied with a complementary spill tray, and most come with a two-year warranty. Furthermore, all boilers except the CB32 incorporate integral scale inhibitor technology, feature self-diagnostic service indicators, and have cool-to-touch outer casings. In addition to the significant savings in time and money that can be made by using our boilers as opposed to the traditional alternatives, (please see our cost-saving calculator,) they also offer the following advantages:
Safety – our boilers are automatically filled without need to lift a lid (and release steam). The outer casings are cool to touch and the risk of burning is minimised. High volume models are supplied with Dualflow taps; one fast for filling teapots and urns, the other slow-flow to allow the safe filling of cups and mugs without the risk of splashing. Some models feature a unique key-controlled dispense system that allows you to decide who has access to the boiling water. Energy-saving – our boilers are insulated and sealed. No steam escapes and the radiant heat loss is minimal. New models feature additional economy features. Convenience – boiling water is instantly and continually available. No need to refill and wait for the kettle or old-style boilers to heat up the contents. The control system on our boilers regulates the water input, to ensure the temperature is constantly maintained.
